Our Speech-Language Therapy Process
Intake Appointment
Come meet us! We will get a sense of your or your child’s speech and language needs, recommend therapy frequency, and assign a lead therapist and a therapy time slot.
Diagnostic Therapy
In the first weeks of therapy, the focus is on building rapport and informally assessing strengths and weaknesses to create a unique and dynamic treatment plan.
Personalized Therapy
Now therapy continues, based on the individualized treatment plan! Data will be reviewed with you every 3-4 months with new goals designed as needed.
Learn about our process for Evaluations
Records Review
After an intake appointment, we will email you a list of reports and forms we will need returned to us 2 weeks before the day of testing. We need this information to determine what assessments to give.
In-Depth Testing
It’s time to test! We will do all the assessments necessary to give you a thorough look at your child’s strengths and needs, to answer your questions, and we’ll have a little fun along the way.
Detailed Report
You’ll receive a comprehensive report that makes you say, “Yes! That’s them!”, with data, summaries, and recommendations for skills, services, and strategies unique to their communication profile.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
We do not participate with any health insurance networks and payment is due for services rendered via cash, check, or credit card. We do work with families who wish to submit insurance claims on their own by providing them with a detailed therapy receipt including procedural and diagnostic codes that insurance companies require for reimbursement to be considered. We encourage you to reach out to your insurance company prior to starting at MMTA to see what speech-language therapy benefits are included in your plan and their stance on out-of-network providers, as we cannot guarantee reimbursement for speech-language services.
-
There are many reasons that a child may not be talking on time. The first step to determining why is actually 3 steps: 1) to test their hearing, 2) to assess their ability to make speech sounds and put them together and 3) to assess their ability to understand the language they hear. Hearing tests should be completed by an audiologist; MMTA can then assess speech and language.
-
At MMTA, you do not need an evaluation to become enrolled in therapy. If it is therapy you are looking for, we will schedule an intake during which we will hear your concerns and do some informal probes to make sure that we are able to treat you or your child. If so, we will then recommend an amount of therapy and in the first 4-6 weeks we will do diagnostic therapy in which we determine goals and techniques to address them, in collaboration with you. If, however, you need detailed information about your or your child’s learning profile, you need test scores for the purposes of qualifying for services with schools or third parties, or you want recommendations for educational placement, amount and types of services, etc., then an evaluation would be appropriate.
-
Whether we evaluate an individual’s articulation/motor speech needs, their receptive, expressive, and pragmatic (social) language, or their augmentative communication system needs, MMTA provides an evaluation that is comprehensive and data-driven and gets to the bottom of the concern. MMTA’s reports provide recommendations for types and amounts of speech-language therapy based on recommendations for skills that need to be addressed and strategies or devices that will be effective. Our reports stand up in meetings with other professionals and they stand up in educational hearings.
-
We love to collaborate with other professionals - we find it is the most effective way to work! We do this through a consultative model that can be in addition to therapy or as follow-up to an evaluation. Consultation can range from regular observations and recommendations to talks or workshops.
-
Frequency of service will depend on the age and needs of the individual. Some individuals thrive with a once- or twice-weekly model where sessions last 45 or 60 minutes while others do best with shorter and more frequent sessions, such as multiple 30-minute sessions.
-
We pride ourselves at MMTA on not subscribing to or specializing in any one methodology, rather we collectively have a vast knowledge of and training in an array of therapeutic techniques and methodologies that are evidenced-based and will mix and match based on the needs of each of our clients. If you have a question regarding a specific treatment methodology, feel free to ask.
At MMTA, we find that different clients each need their own unique blend of evidence-based, best-practice methods and outside-the-box strategies. If you have a question about a specific treatment method, feel free to ask.
-
We welcome individuals of any age that may benefit from our therapeutic expertise, especially those who struggle with social cognitive deficits that are affecting relationships at work and in their community. We do not treat adults in a rehabilitative model who may have been recently hospitalized following a stroke or TBI and are looking to continue outpatient services.
-
Yes! MMTA provides therapy in person, virtually, or in a combination of the two- whatever is therapeutically and logistically best for you or your child!

We frequently work with advocates and attorneys, either in a consultative or an expert witness capacity. Please see the “Expert Witness” section of our services page for more information.
